News and Updates
It's been long hot summer, but Autumn is just around the corner. One of the ways to gauge how close we are getting to cooler weather is the number of caterpillar or fall webworm nests you see in the trees. They start forming in July and they really take over by mid to late August. This year, you can also use the fall webworm nests (or whatever means you use to count down the days until fall) to count down to a couple of events that we have coming up (including Dahlonega Trail Fest).

Towards the end of July, YO hosted an Appalachian Trial thru-hiker presentation by Erin Crozier (2010). We had a great turn out of 25-30 people, and Erin didn't disappoint. Every thru-hiker story you hear has its own unique twist and individual character, and Erin's story was no different in this regard.

YO will be leading a group paddling trip on the beautiful Chestatee River on August 20. There will be limited spots for the trip, so make sure you sign up sooner rather than later.

And of course, September 9-11 YO will be hosting Dahlonega Trail Fest. In previous years, Dahlonega Trail Fest has been scheduled towards the end of March to coincide with the beginning of the Northbound Appalachian Trial thru-hiker season. Constant battles with unpredictable early spring weather led us to move the festival to what we hope and believe will be a more predictable and consistent (meteorologically speaking) early fall date. There will be many of the same events and activities as in past Trail Fests, and there will be tons of new events and activities to make it even better. If you would like to volunteer to help please click here .

Read more about Dahlonega Trail Fest and other YO activities below. Be sure to come out to the festival in September and tell your friends. In the mean time, Lets Get Outdoors!

September Events
September 9-11- Dahlonega Trail Festival brought to you by REI Co-Op. As we said above. We are pumped about this year's festival. REI Co-Op is not only a major sponsor for the 2016 festival, they are going to be heavily involved in festival activities.

They will be hosting the campground, which will be located at the Appalachian Outfitters Tubing Outpost; REI will be providing half-priced paddling classes at Lake Zwerner; and they will set up a bicycle pump track to demo some of their bikes (you can bring your own too).

We also have a slew of new and returning sponsors and vendors. There will be live music, speakers, food and drink. You don't want to miss it! You can learn more about the festival and stay up to date on all of the details
